THE FREIGHT TRANSPORT Association has called on van manufacturers to install speed restricters as standard across their ranges to manage top speeds.
In a meeting of its Van Excellence Governance Group to discuss the proposed increase in motorway speed limits to 80mph, it was unanimously agreed that top speeds of LCVs should be restricted to 70mph to improve safety.
The group also discussed the fuel saving implications a blanket restriction would have on vans and the increased maintenance costs associated with overstressed vans travelling at higher speeds.
