rith their better-paid colleagues now that the empany has signed a national pay agreement pith the Transport & General Workers Union.

Earlier this week the pair announced a ground-breaking" agreement which will improve In the consolidation of improvements in pay and enditions over the past two years for 2,600 mployees'', The deal follows nearly 12 months' fork by the union and the company.

A spokesman for the T&G says that in the past hey had negotiated pay and onditions locally, He expects hat the agreement will end ome of the pay anomolies that xist around the country.

Key provisions of the 108'age agreement include the itroduction of a bonus scheme, Mich will enable employees to hare in the division's success.

There will also be an nhanced role for union repreentatives; greater emphasis n consultation and information sharing; and improvements in sickness benefit and holiday entitlement.

Salvesen has not had the happiest employee relations recently.

In March a driver working at its Gloucester depot won a claim for unfair dismissal after he was subjected to a sustained campaign of bullying and harassment which included being awarded a "Plonker of the Year" certificate. And earlier this month a warehouseman at Salvesen's Safeway distribution centre won E12,000 compensation after he was sacked for allegedly taking a sweet out of a load that a colleague was repacking,
