• by Toby Clark The IWM Show (see report, page 16) marked the debut of United Trailers (UK), the firm founded by Marcus Layton after the collapse of United Trailers last year (CM 4-10 Jan). The new company has sold 38 new trailers so far, with many more on order. Managing director Layton says the 44-tonne limit "has been a godsend to us" as operators have needed new trailers and converted their old ones.
United's Paignton display comprised a planksided box-bodied bulker used by SCA on a recycling contract for Sainsburys, and this 79m3 Pushout ejector for Gerry McGovern. The trailer is a frameless design set up to handle working on rough terrain.
The brakes are drums with repositioned brake chambers to improve ground clearance. A lift axle reduces the turning circle, and the tailgate is hydraulically operated, while the 3CR12 stainlesssteel floor is said to be highly resistant to wear.
