UNLOADING DOVER • Container handling facilities have been boosted at Dover's Eastern Docks with the installation of a pair of 50m gantries with travelling overload cranes, able to lift 40-tonnes. This enables three lanes of containers and vehicles to be worked simultaneously.

SERVING TRUCKS • Norfolk House has applied for planning permission for an 8.5ha (21-acre) motorway service area and truckstop on the B7078 near Junctions 11-12 of the M74.
Plans for the tnickstop include up to 140 parking spaces, restaurant, relaxation and entertainment facilities, and a 24hour heavy recovery service.
RAPID SERVICE • Federal Express is now offering its Rapid Despatch same-day and late-collection courier service in Birmingham using a combination of motorcycles and vans. It offers a dedicated local and national same-day delivery service and a door-to-door same-day shuttle to London. Ror UK shipments, collections can be made as late as 21:00hrs; for international deliveries the deadline is 18:30hrs.
