Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

FOLLOWING a fire in a Leyland National bus operated by Eastern National last week (CM, last week), British Leyland has told CM that a service modification which should have been made to an exchange engine before delivery had not, in fact, been completed.

Last week a Leyland spokesman said that a service modification had been circulated to LN operators which involved reclipping some wiring. This reclipping had not been completed on the bus which caught fire. However, the spokesman said this week, subsequent investigation had shown that the bus had been fitted with a replacement engine early in its life under warranty. This engine, it nowtranspired, had not been modified before its delivery to the operator as it should have been. The

service modification hac been made by Leyland to al vehicles delivered after July 1 last year.

The spokesman went on tc say that the fire had startec near the induction manifolc where wiring had chafed anc not in the starter motor as hac been thought last week.

New electric bus battery

PLANS will be announced next week by the Electricity Council and the Chloride Group for the formation of a company to develop a "revolutionary" new battery which could double or treble the range of urban battery electric buses. The new battery, made from low-cost materials, is said to he suitable for use in other commercial vehicle applications.
