THE East Midland Traffic Commissioners will reply in writing to Worths Motor Services' application to extend its operations in Oxford.
Worths Motor Services applied in April and the hearing was adjourned until June. The City of Oxford Motor Services, NBC's local subsidiary, objects to the extension on the grounds that it would impede transport coordination in the area.
In Aylesbury last week 14 witnesses gave evidence for Worths Motor Services that more buses were needed to serve the City. They said their villages were inadequately served for travel liltĀ° the City for work or recreation. Mrs J. Hammond, an Inland Revenue employee at Oxford, said her 5.10pm bus home to Coombe was frequently late and usually full up.
The City of Oxford Motor Services spokesman told the Commissioners that there was a shortage of drivers, buses and mechanics in the area.
Mr J. Goldstein, of Coombe, said that it was impossible for him to get into Oxford and go to the cinema in the evening as the City Motor Services did not have a bus leaving Oxford for his village after 10pm.
