THE QUEEN'S Birthday Honours List published on Saturday covers a wide variety of transport interests. There is a knighthood for the chairman of the Scottish Transport Group, the Imperial Service Order for a traffic area officer, and the BEM for a coach driver, Patrick Muirhead Thomas, chairman of the Scottish Transport Group, and Arthur Gregory George Marshall, chairman and md of MarshaIls of Cambridge, vehicle bodybuilders, have received knighthoods. Mrs E. J. Denington. chairman of the GLC transport committee, receives the Order of the British Empire, DBE.
OBEs have been awarded to E. C. Allen, regional secre tary of the southern region of the TGWU; W. E. C. Hewings, lately secretary of the London Transport Executive; J. W. Tweedie, executive director, Scottish Bus Group. The MBE has been awarded to J. 0. Darlington, road safety organizer for the Midland region, who is a member of the CM LDoY national council; Miss M. T. Dolt, clerical assistant at the
London Transport Executive; F. G. Dash, district officer {road transport) Sussex, Transport and General Workers' Union; and N. W. Rolfe, lately secretary to the Midland Red Omnibus Co.
The BEM has been awarded to G. Laird, divisional inspector Merseyside PTE; C. C. Lord, transport supervisor, Harry Neal, building contractors of Edgware; H. N. Milford, coach driver with Greenslade Tours, Exeter; L. J. Morris. driver, Gwent Hospital Management Committee; J. A. Stupples, driver, East Kent Road Car Co; C. J. Wheeler, station master, Victoria Coach station, National Travel, NBC.
The Imperial Services Order has been awarded to H. Halliiey, principal officer at the DoE, and clerk to the West Midland Licensing Authority. Sir Raymond Brookes, group chairman and chief executive of the GKN Group, has been elected president of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders. Sir Raymond succeeds Gilbert A. Hunt, chairman of Chrysler United Kingdom, who becomes deputy president. Sir Raymond is also president of the Motor Industry Research Association (MIRA). John Barber, deputy chairman and managing director of British Leyland, becomes a vicepresident in succession to Alex Rhea, former chairman and managing director of Vauxhall motors. Barrio Heath, chairman designate of the GKN Group, and David Plastow, group managing director of Rolls-Royce Motors, have been re-elected vice-presidents.
Christopher Sharp, 26, has been appointed manager of Pickfords Preston branch. Mr Sharp was previously manager at Crewe. Roger Allen, previously Birmingham manager is now manager at Wolverhampton. Kenneth Hundley, formerly at Bradford, becomes Nottingham manager. Peter Benson, 28, assistant manager at Harrow, becomes Peterborough manager.
David Youens has been appointed a non-executive director of Crane Fruehauf Service and Equipment Ltd and Imperial Coachbuilders (Basildon) Ltd. Mr Youens retains his position as group personnel manager.
