THIS MONTH, the Depart ment of the Environment has been carrying out a pilot study covering 300 vehicles in order to test the feasibility of examining 10,000 vehicle movements in September.
The Department has drawn up a questionnaire but before launching on the main survey, which will be looking at main routes used by over 24-ton-gross vehicles, the DoE wants to look at the
suitability of the questionnaire and feasibility of the entire scheme.
The questionnaire is brief and will have to be completed by both operators and drivers. The whole scheme is designed to provide information which will help both national and local government in establishing an acceptable system of prescribed lorry routes.
