and testing of goods vehicles, and what are the fees to be charged?

A As announced on April 25 by the Minister rm of Transport, examinations at MoT testing stations will begin in October for vehicles based in England and Wales, and in December in Scotland. But they must all be tested and plated by the end of March 1970.

Vehicles over 3 tons unladen which were first registered before January 1958 will be the first to be plated and tested. Tests for these vehicles in England and Wales may be booked from August 1 1968 and will be carried out in October and November. In Scotland applications may be made from November 1. Until the scheme starts, voluntary tests will be arranged by appointment at Ministry testing Stations as they become operational and these will be free of charge.

The fees to be charged when the scheme comes into force are: Motor vehicles—with two axles £5, with three axles £6, and with four axles or more £7; trailers—with one axle E3 and with two or more axles £4.

Vehicles failing to pass the initial test may have a retest free of charge on the same or next day. Otherwise if presented within 14 days the minimum fee will be £2. But after 14 days—or if the vehicle is retested at a different station the full fee must be paid.
