• Many of the county and area Shows nowadays seem to attract quite a number of commercial vehicle exhibits, even models which have little connection with agriculture —which is the prime purpose of the Shows. This was certainly the case at the Essex Show held last week when BIVIC, Bedford, Ford, Rootes and Seddon were British makes to be seen. There were also Volvo and Scania from Sweden, Magirus from Germany and in the trailer field Hands. Hoynor, King and York models.
One late arrival of considerable interest was a new Scania 110 (flat-front) model with left-hand drive and Continental specification. It has a sleeper cab and 11ft 3in. (3.4m.) wheelbase. It has has been purchased by Eurohaul Ltd., of Queens Terrace, Southampton, and it will be used on services into Europe, mostly Italy, with a 39ft 3in. (12m) Boden semi-trailer.
One of the more impressive vehicle exhibits was this Volvo-HandslTelehoist artic tipper. The Volvo F86 tractive unit is rated for 30 tons and the HandsiTelehoist Hy-Spill tipper trailer, can have its body raised to a maximum angle of 50deg.
