• As expected, deletion of the groundclearance requirement in the new p.s.v. regulations which came into effect this week has opened the door to the import of Continental vehicles to the British market. First vehicle importer to announce plans in this connection is Mercedes-Benz (Great Britain) Ltd. which has obtained an MoT certificate of fitness for the Mercedes-Benz 0.302.

Steps have already been taken to establish a chain of bus and coach distribution points throughout the country to take care of spares and service and when deliveries begin the price of a complete vehicle will be from /9,990 according to specification.

The 0.302 is an integral body/chassis design of which 5,000 have been produced since its introduction some three years ago. Versions with a variety of interior layouts are made but that for Britain will be aimed at the touring and long-distance express-busservice markets. British seating will be installed but the standard specification which includes a highly efficient heating and ventilation system with individual fresh air nozzles for each passenger will be retained. Other standard fittings include roller blinds on the curved side windows and individual reading lamps for the passengers.

The mechanical specification of the 0.302 includes a Daimler-Benz 185 bhp diesel mounted at the rear and driving through a five-speed gearbox to a two-speed rear axle. Most of the space under the floor between the front and rear axles is devoted to a large capacity luggage locker. Automatic lubrication is employed.
