Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

by lain Sherriff

• Impossible, unbelievable, unbeatable-just how does one describe it? In class H at Glasgow last week George Gray of BOC Ltd. returned a score of only 45 penalties. This is excellent in any class but in any class but in class Hsurely impossible. The marshals checked and re-checked, the scorers did the same, the national steward had a quiet glance but there it was, 45 penalties, and it had to be believed.

Is it unbeatable? Well only the remaining competitors at St Austell, Portsmouth, Northampton, Essex and Manchester can do much about it now. The records say that not in 16 years has a class H man been so low and I cannot find anyone who can remember such a low score in any class.

Mr. Gray now leads a strong Scottish team from Glasgow to the final on September 8. The driving was generally of a high standard and in class D it took the road route to find the winner. In class G one point settled the issue. The trend is for the penalty points awarded in the heavy classes to be dropping while the actual entry increases.

The same cannot be said for A arid B men as only 18 out of 90 appeared at Glasgow, and these are the people who can claim grants.

What can LIDDY do for road safety? Baillie J. Anderson Of Glasgow said: "We have an 'Aberfan' in the streets of Glasgow every year but the children are killed in smaller numbers. You are helping to stop this slaughter."

The new Glasgow centre is at India of Inchinnan and it proved ideal. The tyre manufacturers provided every facility and illustrated their attitude to safer driving by their .complete co-operation.
