Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

DEMONSTRATIONS were given recently of Bendix cleaners which are now being produced and marketed by a newly formed Chemical Products division of The Zenith Carburetter Co. Ltd. which is based at London Road, Dunstable, Beds. Formulations developed by The Bendix Corporation of America are used for the cleaners, five of which are being offered.

Two are immersion cleaners and are used cold. Speed/Clene can be used either in a soak tank or with a dip basket. It destroys the bond securing grease, dirt and carbon to the part being cleaned, and will also remove paint or lacquer in a similar manner, although the metal is not attacked and protective coatings such as dichromate or anodic treatments are not damaged. Metal/Clene does the same job but is designed for normal cleaning, whereas the Speed/Clene is essentially a fast-action cleaner intended for use when maximum speed is required. Both products are available in 3-, 4-, 10and 40gal, containers. In the case of the 3-gal. size the trade price of Speed/Clene is £4 17s. 6d. and Metal/Clene is £3 15s. Od. A parts dipping basket can be supplied to fit this particular size of pail and this costs an extra 11 5s. Od.

Econo/Clene and Grease/Clene are effective general-purpose degreasers. Econo/Clene is a concentrated liquid which can be mixed with paraffin in ratios from 1 to 10 according to requirements and converts the paraffin into a more powerful cleaning liquid which, unlike paraffin can be washed off with water to leave an oil-free surface. Grease/Clene is used straight from its container either by spray or by brushing. It quickly softens and dissolves all grease, dirt and oil and is hosed off with water. These two products come in 1-, 5-, 10and 40-gal. sizes. A 1-gal, can of Econo/ Clene costs 11 3s. 6d. trade and the same size of Grease/Clene costs 10s. A spray gun and hose for use with either product is available at £3 5s. trade.

The fifth product is a hand cleanerDeep/Clene. This was shown to be extremely effective during the demonstrations in removing dirt and grease from hands and was even successful in removing dried-on paint. It can be used either with or without water and incorporates lanolin and hexachlorophene. Deep/Clene is sold in 1-gal. or 5-gal. polythene containers costing 13s. 9d. and £2 15s. respectively (trade) and a dispenser and wall bracket for the 1-gal. size cost 7s. trade each.

Full descriptive brochures and details of prices of container sizes not given are available.
