Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE ORDINARY lorry does not 1 always appeal to the average farmer, because in his work its use is somewhat restricted. He requires a vehicle which can be used for all kinds of purposes' and one which can be covered or left open as he deems advisable. In cases where the farmer is a breeder of prize cattle, he will also require a vehicle capable of carrying such animals without difficulty. With the ordinary lorry it may be a fairly simple matter to ran the cattle up a gangway into the vehicle, but such a gangway is not always available at the place where the cattle have to be unloaded, and, if made in one length, it would be too awkward to carry about. In order to meet these requirements, Bayley's, Ltd., of 42, Newington Cause

way, London, B.E.1, recently constructed a most useful body. The photograph we reproduce shows this body fitted with a 25 cwt. Albion chassis.

It will be seen that the body is provided with a canvas tilt supported on angle iron hoops with ridge poles and additional oak detachable sideboards. The cover is of green canvas strapped down to hooka carried along the sides of the body, which can thus be made open or closed at will. In addition to this feature, the body has been made suitable for carrying cattle by the provision of two lengthening platforms, which can be hooked to the tailboard. Carried underneath the floor of the body are three oak skids, which can he slid out to form strengthening beams for the tailboard and its extensions. The

mounting platform thus formed has cross treads to prevent the feet of tha animals slipping. When not required for this purpose, the tailboard extensions are carried in a special compartment with a. hinged lid situated between the cab and the body, and are thus always available for use, wherever th;-,,, vehicle may be positioned.

The motor vehicle is rapidly gaining in popularity amongst members of the farming community, but in order that, they shall become larger and fully satisfied users of commercial motors it is essential that their interests and requirements should be studied most carefully. Up to the present many bodybuilders have been inclined to ignore this branch of the trade, but they cannot afford tc do so in the future.
