A CONSTRUCTION products supplier and a parcels carrier have entered administration, both claiming that the cost pressures of running a leet forced them to cease trading.

Great Yarmouth-based ownaccount operator Halls Group, which supplies building products to the construction sector, appointed Graham Bushby and Nigel Millar of Baker Tilly Restructuring and Recovery as joint administrators to the business on 12 July. All 32 employees, including lorry drivers, were made redundant.

Halls Group held an O-licence for 20 vehicles and two trailers. The 65-year-old company was forced into administration following a lack of capital and pressure from creditors.

However, administrator Millar says he is conident that some of the business will be salvaged. “There are a number of potential purchasers and we are hoping we may be able to secure a sale of the business and assets in due course.” Meanwhile, a subcontractor for parcel giants Yodel and City Link has also entered administration, leaving no available assets. Shefield courier Mission Haulage & Distribution entered liquidation on 6 July, with the appointment of Gareth Rusling and John Russell of the P&A Partnership to wind down the business.

As well as subcontracting, the irm ran a number of vans and 7.5tonne trucks on its own contracts. CM understands that high fuel costs and pressure from creditors led to the demise of the company.

Secured and nonpreferential creditors are owed £117,576. Mission Haulage had no funds available to pay any debts. One of the biggest creditors, HM Revenue & Customs, is owed £67,732.
