Ruth Bacigalupo of fork-lift attachments manufacturer Contact Attachments, says drum-handling attachments start from as little as £250, although others, such as telescopic forks, typically come in at around £3,500.
Some attachments, including fork extensions, can be fitted to many types of truck. Most, however, are only suitable for counterbalanced trucks. Attachments are sometimes designed to befitted permanently; others can be attached as required. "Fork extensions, for example, can be fitted in five minutes," says Bacigalupo. 'But others, like hydraulic telescopic forks and double pallet handlers, are usually plumbed into the truck, so are not usually taker off."
