• Ricky Herbert, warehousing and distribution manager at Garfield Lewis in Leeds, took delivery of his Leyland Daf Boalloy Linkliner bodied Roadrunner last week as winner of the Commerical Motor "Win a Truck for a Year" competition.
When Herbert, an exmerchant navy captain, turned up to collect his prize in Leeds last week, he and the rest of the guests were in for a surprise — Boalloy's Gerald Broadbent had heard that Herbert would have preferred a curtainsider, and immediately offered to swap the body. So on Friday morning, the Garfield Lewis Roadrunner turned up at Boalloy's Congleton headquarters and emerged three hours later wearing a new Tautliner body — and Broadbent had even found a set of curtains in the appropriate Garfield Lewis dark green livery.
The Roadrunner is one of the first of the powerful 8.15 turbo-charged models to go into service. It will be looked after by local dealer Chatfields, and will be used to distribute non-ferrous metal in the Leeds area.
