• A substantial order for rnidibuses by former National Bus Company subsidiary South Midland coincides with a retrenchment of minibus operations in Oxford.
The Witney-based company has ordered 25 Mercedes 709s with Reeve Burgess 29-seat bodies.
It has not revealed at this stage what they are to be used for, but it is understood that they may replace part of the existing large bus fleet, consisting mainly of some 50 con ventional double-deckers.
The Jericho minibus service in Oxford will be withdrawn on 23 July, to be taken over by the Oxford Bus Company. It links a small housing development in Oxford with the city centre.
The threatened Witney "Blanket Bus" minibus operation has been temporarily reprieved by the injection of cash from the county council, and tenders for the long-term operation of the service are being sought.
