Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

RESEARCH into means of reducing vehicle noise is now probably taking a greater share of vehicle manufacturers' r and d budgets than any other single subject. Some manufacturers may wish to contract out part of the work.

Recognising this, a Kentbased engineer, in partnership with one from Michigan, USA, has set up a consultancy which specialises in diesel engine and industrial noise.

Dr Paul Waters, of Bromley, and Dr Sam Haddad, of the De partment of Engineering Technology, Western Michigan, both have extensive experience of the subject. Paul Waters has worked for Ford, the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research and the Department of Transport. Sam Haddad is currently working under contravt to Cummins on the development of quieter engines.

The services their consultancy offers include measurement analysis and assessment of noise, and advice on methods of its control.
