UBM GROUP managing director Gordon Reed is retiring to become a nonexecutive director of UBM Transport Ltd and will act as an independent consultant. His knowledge of air suspension, demountable and specialised bodywork, and other transport engineering matters will be available to many firms. Mr Reed worked first with Commer Karrier in the 1930s, worked on buses during qorld War II, and ran his own business before joining UBM in 1949.
Dick Scarley has retired as Freightliners Ltd's Southampton manager after six years. He has been with Freightliners since 1967 and received an MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours list this year. He has been replaced by operating officer Richard Howlett.
National Freight Corporation chairman Sir Dan Pettit's personal secretary Margaret Austin was presented with her MBE medal at Buckingham Palace last week. She has been Sir Dan's secretary for four years.
