ENFORCEMENT action should be taken to force a Lanark haulier to scale down the size of his business. For the present business operated by Mr J. McKnight from the town's Bernard's Wynd has 'materially changed' since planning permission was granted in 1964.
This was stated at a recent Lanark District Council meeting which discussed complaints received about the business.
Chief planning officer Graham U'ren said there could be grounds for serving an enforcement order on Mr McKnight because the business use of the property has altered in its intensification since planning permission was first granted.
Apart from the building the business operated from, there was parking and servicing of vehicles on adjacent properties. Mr U'ren said if enforcement action were to be taken, it should be on the building only, and the council should look at ways of taking legal action on the other areas.
The council could even consider offering to buy the premises and try and offer the firm an alternative site, he added.
