Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A LTHOUGH the vehicles of the I-1 North Western Road Car Co„ Ltd., ran 500,000 more miles and carried 2,500,000 more passengers last yeat than in the previous 12 months, increased costs offset the upward trend of revenue.

Mr. J. W. Womars M.Inst.T., chair man, said this at the company's annual general meeting this week. Citing instances of higher costs, he said that the extra fuel tax would involve an additional expenditure of £100,000.

The trades unions, he said, had lodged with the National Council for the Omnibus Industry a wage claim equivalent to broadly an additional 3d per hour. If granted, the concession would cost the company kin extra £68,000 per annum.

Heavy increases in costs had comrselled many bus undertakings to seek to raise fares. Further applications were inevitable.
