Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

PiA N entirely new range of mediumweight passenger-vehicle chassis and. new 6-ton and 7-ton goods chassis will be exhibited by Tilling-Stevens, Ltd., and Vulcan Motors, Ltd., at the Commercial Motor Show in September.

This news was given in the 'annual statement of the chairman of the TillingStevens company, Mr. V. C. Ponsonby. Prospects for the coming year, he said, were not helped by the imposition of purchase tax on goods-vehicle chassis. There could be little doubt that there would be a reduction of home demand. During the past year efforts to raise export sales were successful.

Mr. Ponsonby explained the reasons for the company's loss of £31,027 in the past financial year. He held Govern: meat policy responsible. The concern had never been a big exporter and the introduction of its products abroad was a difficult problem. As a result of the proportionately small export business, the Government required production for the home market to be curtailed. This restriction was More marked in the company's case than it was with concerns which had been big exporters.

Tilling-Stevens. Ltd., was obtaining its fair share of orders from the railways, the National Coal Board and municipalities, but was still feeling the effects of road transport nationalization.
