Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A SEVERE shock was given to Stockton Corporation by the Traffic Commissioners for the Northern Area, at their recent sitting in Middlesbrough, for they prohibited the municipal buses from plying for hire on part of a route for which a licence was granted, in the corporation's own area. Moreover, a private firm was accorded the privilege of working over the whole of the route.

Transport against the institution by any undertaking of new services, whilst he showed signs of displeasure when it was stated by the municipal transport manager that two corporation buses were run per hour, five minutes ahead of a private firm's vehicles.

The transport manager was interrogated in connection with certain alterations to time-tables, which were stated to have been made after the latest date allowed by the Road Traffic Act, namely, February 9th. Mr. Riches alleged that the modifications had been "deliberately made to benefit the corporation."

Messrs. Jones and Pritchard, the firm referred to earlier in this article, were granted permission to operate between Stockton and Yarm, subject to certain modifications in their time-table. The corporation was allowed to run a 30minute service from Stockton to Old Thornaby, extending to Yarm every two hours, on the condition that the vehicles did not pick up or set down passengers between the town hall at Stockton and a point 10 yds. south rtf Lanehouse Road, Thornaby.

This is one of the most interesting inquiries yet held in an area which is full of transport problems.
