With few exceptions, now trucks over 12 tonnes GVVV and trailers over 3.5 tonnes must now have spray suppression equipment. We have been looking at what's available.

IN It is now almost three years since the first stage of the Government's controversial anti-spray legislation programme came into effect.

While there are still plenty of operators who resent being forced to fit spray suppression equipment, and even dispute its effectiveness, there can be no ignoring the legal requirement to fit it. Like it or not, spray suppression is now writ in the transport equivalent of stone — the C&U Regulations.

Commercial Motor's guide to spray suppression equipment lists 11 companies currently producing devices designed to comply with BS AU200. Operators should note, however, that those products with a BS "Kite Mark" have also been independently tested by the British Standards Institute.
