• A lorry driver has been cleared of causing the death of an Automobile Association patrol man in a freak accident.
Gordon Coddington of Boston, Lincolnshire was also acquitted of a lesser charge of careless driving by a jury at Gloucester Crown Court, after an accident in which Philip Goddard was crushed in his van under Coddington's lorry.
The prosecution alleged that Coddington drove his 24-tonne artic too fast round a bend, causing it to topple over, killing Goddard instantly. A road safety expert, however, told the jury that he did not think Coddington was to blame.
