Head Hunters" (CM 26 November-2 December). I found the article particularly interesting and would very much like to make a few comments.

My own opinion is that the road transport industry needs to "sell" itself much more to young people. The industry does not promote itself at all in colleges — especially not as an exciting industry. I am 23 and people of my age started to look for careers in transport in the depths of a recession. Transport was hit very hard so they went after other careers with more of a stable nature.

Such a shortage of qualified staff has a lot to do with changes in the industry — the express parcels industry was, and still is, a very exciting business with a sharp and professional image and as such has attracted young transport professionals away from general haulage and distribution.

When I was looking for a career in transport I became increasingly annoyed at the number of graduates gaining positions in the industry, graduates with degrees in biology, etc. Where's their transport experience?
