Monsanto was the first company to launch CV anti-spray equipment in Britain (in 1979) — and its Clear Pass systems have dominated this sector ever since.
The suppressant material comprises 20rnm polyethylene strands moulded onto high-density reinforced-polyethylene backing sheets, forming flaps and valances. Individual components are available in standard sizes, and a comprehensive range of kits is marketed for front and driving axles of rigid trucks and tractors, and for all configurations of trailer axles.
Monsanto front-steer axle kits are fitted as standard by a number of CV manufacturers; some top valances have Clear Pass material fixed to the inner wing faces. This also applies to driven and trailer axles where hinged or fixed valances have the material applied to the inner faces; some trailer manufacturers have standardised on Clear Pass.
Monsanto claims to have a speciallydesigned kit for every standard model of HGV and every trailer marketed in the UK, and offers technical back-up to customers to meet special requirements. To suit non-steered axles the company lists 12 general-purpose installation kits for curved wings on single and tandem axles, and 30 for flap and valance installation on single, tandem and triple trailer axles. It may be necessary to modify flap sizes in some cases, but this should not present a problem as the material can easily be cut to size.
For replacement purposes, or where a customer has special requirements, Monsanto offers standard sizes of Clear pass flaps from 300mm to 660mm wide, and from 600mm to 1,220mm long, with side valances measuring 1,220mm long by 200 or 300mm deep.
