ALL-DAY WAGE MEETING

AN all-day meeting on the claim of r-k. the unions for higher basic pay and .night-work rates was held on Tuesday by the employers' panel of the Road Haulage Wages Council. The purpose was to consider the case to be argued at the next meeting of the National Joint Industrial Council which is to be held on February 2.

GERMANS SEE B.R.S. DEPOTS QEVEN German transport experts, who are visiting Britain to discuss transport problems with chambers of commerce in this country, inspected general haulage and parcels depots of the South Eastern Division of British Road Services on Wednesday. Discussions are proceeding on whether a pooling of knowledge and a joint study of transport would be of value.

AORE money for roads should not LVJ be made available at the expense of further capital on modernizing the railways. This opinion is expressed by the council of Leeds Chamber of Commerce in their annual report. They also believe that because expenditure on a number of carefully selected road projects would bring enormous benefits to the country, an elaborate motorway system should not be constructed.
