Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Eight National Bus Company engineering subsidiaries have been sold together to Beattie Engineering in a move which should receive ministerial approval this week.

Robert Beattie, the company's owner was taken on by the NBC last July to negotiate the sale of the engineering companies, but resigned later when he decided to bid for the companies through his own firm.

This has led some of the engineering companies involved to question the fairness of the sale.

Robin Westbrook, managing director of Edgbas ton-based Carlyle Works, says "As a negotiator for the NBC I3eattie helped us set the ball park figure we should bid and he must have had a significent advantage."

NBC says, "This may have looked a little strange, but in practice Beattie had no unfair advantage."
