• P&A O'Neill Haulage, which is run by a Leicestershire family, has withdrawn its application for a new licence for six vehicles and five trailers. No reason for the withdrawal has been given.
When the company was granted an interim licence in December, Eastern Licensing Authority John Mervyn-Pugh warned that when he considered the substantive application he would need to be satisfied about the good repute of Patrick O'Neill, a director and the nominated transport manager.
He would also need evidence about unpaid fines, a certificate that no VAT was owed, bank references, details of the company's finances and a maintenance contract with an outside garage.
The company is one of four undertakings operated by the O'Neill family from premises at Earl Shilton. Last September a history of prohibition notices, convictions and the non-payment of vehicle excise duty led to licences held by Edward O'Neill, his wife Susan and Alice O'Neill — a director of P&A O'Neill Haulage — being curtailed.
A licence held by the company was revoked on the understanding that application would be made to merge it with Alice O'Neill's licence. Subsequently Susan O'Neill surrendered her licence and Edward O'Neill's licence was revoked on the grounds that he was no longer of good repute.
