THE McKinsey proposals to sell Ireland's state road haulage fleet (CM, February 14) assume that privately-owned lorries will be overloaded by 25 per cent, Coras lompair Eireann claimed last week.
The semi-State transport company was reacting to the plans to divide the company into three parts, and discontinue the haulage service, saying: "It is CIE's view that the number of orries needed to replace railway freight services were unJerstated by about 60 per cent, and crew levels by 85 per cent."
And it added that McKinsey assumed the lorries would be overloaded by 25 per cent, stathg: "This condones a legal infringement and it is the CIE view that an analysis with such a basis should not merit serious consideration."
It also accused McKinsey of proposing to close down road 'reight without any detailed analysis, and says the only way of keeping a proper back-up for :he rail freight service is to have :his run jointly by CIE and prifate hauliers.
