Car Trailer AFOUR-WHEEL close-coupled trailer designed for the transport of cars has been introduced by Everyman's Trailers (Payne and Broughton). The platform is 14 ft. long by 6 ft. wide and the chassis is of all-welded construction. Standard equipment includes a winch, support stands and loading ramps which can be carried under the car during transport. An hydraulically-operated over-run brake and independent parking brake are fitted.

Proceedings Published THE proceedings of the symposium sponsored by the automobile division of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers in conjunction with the Aluminium Development Association in London in February, 1962, have now been published. The book has the same title as the symposium— Aluminium in Road Vehicles—and contains 152 pages, fully

illustrated.

From B.S.I, RECENT publications from the British Standards Institution include B.S. AU 40 on vehicle lighting and signalling equipment, the first part of a revised edition of B.S. 1726 on coil springs, and an amendment, PD 5120, to B.S. 2515 on reflectors for vehicles.

B.S. AU 40 will, when completed, deal with lamps and indicators for all types of vehicle and the first part, which has now been issued, covers side, rear, parking and stop lamps and direction indicators. Requirements for the colour of light emitted and its intensity at various angles are included, together with other requirements for lamp units such as resistance to vibration and the entry of moisture and dust. Further parts of 13.5. AU 40 are being considered for publication! these deal with head and fog lamps and, with the publication of this first part, B.S. 2605 (parking lights) and B.S. 2516 (tail lights) are superseded.

B.S. 2515 includes requirements for trailer plates and specifies two grades of luminous intensity, one corresponding with proposals made by the E.C.E., the other being included as a higher standard of efficiency which should be aimed at. B.S. 1726 is designed to provide a clear dimensional specification for helical compression, tension and torsion springs.

Cleaning Tanks ANUMBER of improvements and modifications are incorporated in a new range of Aja-Lif air-operated cleaning machines introduced by the Magnus Chemical Co. Ltd. Basically, the Aja-Lif unit is a tank with a platform inside it which is raised and lowered through a cleaning solution by an air cylinder mounted at the rear of the tank. The platform can be raised above the liquid for loading and unloading.

Features now standard on the maehines are the L use of Stelvetite p.v.c.-coated mild-steel sheet which is available in a choice of 12 colours, an easily-removable work platform to facilitate cleaning the tank, large doors fitted at the front of the tank to allow the easy removal of sludge accumulation and the ascent and descent of the platform can he varied so that length of stroke and speed of agitation can be adjusted to suit different requirements.

Five. standard sizes with load capacities from 75 to 1,000 lb. are made and special machines can be built. An eightpage leaflet is available.
