• Leyland Daf has delivered the first of the 1522 DROPS medium mobility load carriers it is contracted to build for the Ministry of Defence over the next three years.
The DROPS (Demountable Racking Offloading Pick-up System) trucks will go to the British Army of the Rhine to work as logistic support vehicles — the kl 50 million order is the first big military contract the company has won since the merger of Daf and Leyland Trucks.
Leyland Daf says the DROPS trucks are the most sophisticated ever built at its Leyland, Lancs plant. The company is also contracted to supply 5,125 four-lonners to the Dutch army. and 193 fivetonners to the Dutch air force.
