• Silentnight, the Lancashirebased bed manufacturer is cancelling its direct delivery service to furniture group Lowndes Queensway's customers.
Silentnight has been delivering up to 2,000 beds a week since the contract began in May. But the company's chief executive, Christopher Burnett, says he did not have the confidence to make the necessary investment in time and capital to develop the service further against the background of Lowndes Queensway's current financial problems. "We will develop the direct delivery service when we find a strong retail partner to do it with us," he says.
