THE 1986 12,000km ParisDakar rally starts on January 1 and Dal Trucks, last year's winner of the over 10-tonne class, has built a new vehicle, The Bull, for the event.
A specially modified chassis houses twin rally versions of the turbocharged and intercooled DKZ 11.6-litre engines side-by-side low in the centre of the truck.
One engine drives to the front and the other to the rear axle but overall height of the "Turbo-twin" has been lowered by 0.5m and subsequently lower centre of gravity for improved stability.
Power output is up by 1861kW (250hp) to 746kW (1,0004).
Daf says it realises the value of the rally for testing components and promoting its image.
