FOUR.fEEN areas have been elected by the Government's Transport and Road Research Laboratory for detailed studies of activity following the introduction of deregulation.

The TRRL will also create a national data base of service registrations with information provided by the Traffic Commissioners, and has earmarked resources for special studies when individual competitive situations emerge.

In England they comprise the city of Nottingham, its suburbs and some adjoining rural districts, the Medway towns in Kent and some adjoining districts, and the surrounding area of East Lancashire, and Western Wiltshire.

The Passenger Transport Executive areas of Tyne and Wear. Greater Manchester and the West Midlands will also be studied in detail.

In Wales, the areas chosen are the county of West Glamorgan and a large part of North and Mid Wales covering Colwyn, Rhuddlan, Glyndwr and Montgomery.

For Scotland, the studies cover Paisley, Bearsden and F.asterhouse in Greater Glasgow, Penicuik, Edinburgh and Dalkeith in Lothian, North East Fife, a large part of Highland Region and Dumfries and Galloway. Strathclyde PTE as a whole will also be studied.

The national data base of registrations will be kept on a computer, enabling analysis of the turnover of routes and trends in type of operation.
