capacity of over 7,500tons. served by fork-lift trucks and conveyors, form the basis of a great new transport warehousing development by Connal and Co. Ltd., on a 6i-acre site in Craigmont Street, Maryhill, Glasgow. This new depot, which was opened on Tuesday, replaces the former headquarters in the city, where operations in a congested area were becoming increasingly difficult and uneconomic.
Vastly improved control of day-to-day operations and much faster turn-round for vehicles are claimed for this new warehousing project which has so far cost £100,000. The present buildings include a 200,000-cu.-ft. insulated warehouse in which refrigeration is to be installed and a bonded warehouse holding large tonnages of dutiable goods.
At least 80 per cent of the goods stored in these warehouses are palletized by the company's own dock loading squads and transferred to the warehouses by its 33-strong vehicle fleet. A new maintenance garage, transport office and transit shed have been built on the site,
