WJEIGHTMASTER sixand eightIT wheeled goods chassis, as introduced six months ago by Atkinson Vehicles Ltd., are now available with Eaton 30DT tandem bogies as optional equipment. This bogie, which consists of two two-speed axles driven through a third differential, will have ratios of 4-87 and 6.77 to.1 when used by Atkinson, The third differential can be locked out at will.

Demonstrations of a Weightmaster sixwheeler with the new bogie can be arranged through Atkinsondistributors.

New Taskers Factory

TASKERS OF ANDOVER (1932) LTD. is to occupy an 11,000sq.-ft. factory at Cumbernauld employing 200 workers on the manufacture of trailers and farm implements.

The Scottish Council (Development and industry) approached the firm some time ago and pointed to the prospects in Cornbernauld as a result of the growth of the motor industry in Scotland. Taskers will co-ordinate trailer production with the B.M..C, work at Bathgate.

Semi-trailer Contest Winners W INNER of the " Idea of the Year" VV competition promoted by 'Crane Fruehauf Trailers Ltd., is Mr. C. W. Croft, a self-employed Bedford artic. driver, of Pitsmead Road, Kirkby, Liverpool. Mr. Croft's suggestion for improving semi-trailers is: Put two extra legs on the front corners for safety when loading and unloading without the prime mover.

Second in the competition is Mr. John Tonkin, of Sugworth Lane Caravan Site, Radley, Berks, a driver for the Pressed Steel Co. Ltd. His idea is: To fix a cog rim to the trailer coupling, and a handoperated dog on the tractor, to prevent jack-knifing in emergency braking. The winner receives a prize of £50, the runner-up €15.

Fork Truck Driver of the Year AS a practical contribution to the rANational Productivity Year. the Institute of Materials Handling and the British Industrial Truck Association are launching the first of an annual series of nationwide competitions to find the Fork Truck Driver of the Year. The -finals of the 1963 competition will be held at Brighton on May 9, 1963, as part of the Third International Conference of the Institute of Materials Handling. The emphasis of the competition will be on safety and efficiency. Cash prizes and a trophy will be awarded.
