INCREASING use by builders of preI mixed mortar necessitated the operation of additional vehicles, the Northern Licensing Authority was told last week. Walker Bros. (Newborn). Ltd., applied for a B licence for six lorries for the carriage of goods for Lime Sand Mortar, Ltd., and A. Braithwaite and Co., Ltd., two associated concerns. Four of the lorries were already running under contract for Lime Sand Mortar, Ltd.

Mr. A. Marshall, transport manager of the two concerns, said that special vehicles were used to carry the premixed mortar and sometimes they had to haul sand, as it was not economic to have them standing idle. Contract haulage arrangements were being abandoned and hauliers were being advised to apply for B licences restricted to the two companies. Demands for pre-mixed mortar were being made from 100 miles away and such deliveries would need more lorries.

For the applicant, Mr. T. H. Campbell Wardlaw said that the special vehicles were constructed with semi-elliptical tanks and were exempt from the 25-mile limit.

Mr. H. Wakefield, for the Road Haulage Executive, said that the R.H.E. had no specially built vehicles for premixed mortar. He was not aware that the Executive had written to A. Braithwaite and Co., Ltd., offering to put special vehicles on at rates higher than those normally charged.

The licence was granted. The Authority was assured by Mr. Marshall that there would be no abstraction of traffic from the R.H.E.

THREE LONDON COACH PARKS

DETAILS of additional coachparking facilities in London have been given by the Passenger Vehicle Operators' Association. National Car Parks, Ltd., 12, Grosvenor Hill, London, W.1, has indicated that the parks at Royal Street, Lambeth (near Westminster Bridge), Wood LanP(opposite the White City Stadium) and Bayliss Road (near the site of the Old Vic theatre) are suitable for use by publicservice vehicles.

Fees at these parks are 2s. 6d. for a period up to 12 hours. By arrangement with National Car Parks, Ltd., the Royal Street and Wood Lane parks are available for use as terminal points, subject to appropriate authorization by the Licensing Authority.
