OK, you may not strictly need the added volume, but the increase in cab size and practicality creates a better environment for the driver Elsewhere, Citroen has again shown it can build a competent van that delivers on the fundamentals. Praise in particular goes to the engine, which is as smooth and as powerful as the 2.0-litre it takes over from, but with added fuel economy, and the Extensa seating configuration gives it a jump on the class leaders.

Its also a stylish and welt-proportioned number that is easy to drive and toad, and the continually improving build quality gives it residual credentials.

That said, it is the minor niggles that stop it from snaffling top spot. Driver comfort is spoiled by poor pedal layout and reduced foot space, and its steering is as vague as a politician's answer. That aside, Citroen has once again shown that it can build a decent van, and with the Bertingo, it is edging nearer to the crown.
