Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Would-be truck drivers over the age of 25 can now access training funds for gaining their HGV qualification through the new Skills for Logistics (SfL) body.

This is the first time that funding has been made available for training over 25s, says SfL chairman Andrew Callaghan. Up to 12,500 will be allocated for each award accessed through an approved training provider, but tuition will only be open to employed people.

Callaghan adds: "This new award achieves several objectives—helping employers recruit new staff with a recognised vocational qualification, 'upskilling existing staff, and increasing the opportunity for individuals to achieve relevant qualifications for career progression.'

Future plans will see access to funding broadened to include all sectors in the logistics and transport industry Callaghan adds: "The awards could mean equipping someone with the qualifications they need to go on to university, or to assist a driver moving from a category C licence to a category C+E licence."

Besides training drivers, Sfi_ is also offering additional funding for assisting people with literacy and numeracy difficulties.

III Skills for Logistics Is seeking nominations for its new board for a director from north of the border. The board—set up in July—reflects cross-industry support from leading employers, trade unions and trade associations, but chairman Andrew Callaghan believes It needs stronger representation from Scotland.
