II Tanker firm Interoute has had its Welsh licence almost halved by Traffic Commissioner David Dixon following a series of maintenance problems.

The firm, based in Thame, Oxfordshire, holds licences in five traffic areas with a fleet of over 300 vehicles. It was called before the IC after nine of 19 vehicles presented for test from its Pontypool depot failed on initial presentation.

Pointing out that the company had advised the Traffic Area of its problems. Hal!swarth said that that was an unusual step before a Public Inquiry. Hallsworth added that there had only been one prohibition issued since the maintenance investigation.

Interoute had a proud reputation and was a good, well-respected operator, said Hai!swarth, and he believed that it had now got things right. The company accepted its responsibility and said that, with the loss of the DuPont contract, the source of the problem had now gone.

Fleet engineer Stephen Biddle said that the company was angry about the results of the fleet inspection given that the depot had been given prior notice. Cutting the licence from 37 vehicles and 52 trailers to 20 vehicles and 20 trailers. the TO said that 10 prohibitions had been issued over a 10-month period and he concluded that complacency might have set in. But the company had taken proper steps to put things right. 4111Y put things right.
