=antry-type washer k NEW. gantry-type, commercial vehicle washer, which incorporates a high-pressure, hydraulic water system, is now vailable frOrn Auto-Bath Co. Ltd. The Auto-Bath Mk. IN omirriercial Vehicle Washer was developed by Auto-Bath in 3njunction with the transport department of Watney Combe eid and Co. Ltd. and.. is capable of washing vehicles up to 3 ft. 4 in. high and 8 ft. 6 in. wide in as little as 15 minutes. he washing cycle consists of a clear water rinse, a detergent ?ray (which is worked in by the operator) and finally a high

The gantry arch carries three banks of jets—top heights of lese are 6 ft., lift. 6 in. and 13 ft. 6 in.—thus enabling vehicles f varying heights to be washed economically. A total of 2 water jets (operating at pressures of from 85 to 115 p.s.i.) nd 38 detergent jets (operating at 115 p.s.i.) are fitted. kdditionally, a further 37 blanked-off jets (25 water. 12. etergent) are provided, which can be brought into use when equ i red.

The Washer is supplied, with water from a 600-gal. storage ink fed from the mains, and is 'fitted with a Worthington impson, 12.5 h.p., electric-motor-operated pump. Two torking platforms are fitted on the gantry at a height of ft. 6 in, to enable operators to work-in the detergent on top f a vehicle. The unit is mounted on four plastics-tyred /heels, two of which are castored for manceuvring. Greater ontrol of the unit is possible by the use of runners, though hese are not strictly necessary. A footbrake is provided on ach side of the washer to hold it in any position.

The detergent is automatically dispensed from the chromium4ated, built-in detergent tanks by means of a free-floating liston It is pressurized by the water system and ejected hrough a self-mixing action controlled by a regulator/isolator alve. Three control lights on the panel, beside the control z.vers, indicate when the detergent tanks require refilling. Two high-pressure water guns (one on each side of the unit), laving a fully adjustable discharge, are supplied for rinsing wkwarcl places on vehicles: Made by: Auto-Bath Co. 171 .TORQUE recording wrench, likely to interest garages, service stations and commercial vehicle operators, is now being made by Precise Torque Ltd., of 'Derby. It measures torque to an accuracy of 2 per cent within a range of 0-150 lb. ft.

The instrument is small and light and records torque whilst being. applied. It is available in linear, and _metric scales. Literature is available in English, Spanish, German and French.

Man-made Fibre Ropes THE first in a series of British Standards for ropes made from man-made fibres has recently been published as B.S.3758 polyester filament ropes (hawser laid). This gives requirements for construction, weight. length, minimum breaking load and identification marking. Methods of tests are also included. It is expected that standards for polythene and nylon ropes will be issued later.

Facts for Drivers ABOOKLET entitled London, Information for Motorists' has just been published by the R.A.C. This contairs useful information about parking meters, peak hour clear ways, and the tidal flow experiment. It also lists hotels, restaurants, R.A.C. appointed repairers and agents—and 13 pages of maps are included. There are also lists of theatres and cinemas together with information on the nearest garages that offer casual parking facilities.

A leaflet is also available giving information on London (Heathrow) Airport. This gives details of car parks, garages, hotels and car hire. A map is included which shows the main approach roads and a plan of the layout of the buildings, giving the location of the R.A.C. office, where members can obtain advice or information on any motoring topic.
