AS from August 1, responsibility for the acquisition of all used vehicles required by Government Departments has been centralized in the Ministry. of War Transport. It has also assumed responsibility for the assessment, on behalf of departments, of compensation payable under the Defence Acts in respect of such vehicles compulsorily acquired. A new branch of the Ministry, the Vehicle Acquisition and Compensation' Branch, has been set up and Mr. A. Warren Lambert, 0.B.E., has been appointed thief assessor.
