The Britvic Soft Drink Report 2011 shows take-home drink sales increased 7% in value to £6.6bn and 3.3% in volume. On-trade value increased 1% to £2.8bn, but volume dropped 3%. Glucose and stimulant drinks grew by almost 20%.
The biggest drinks contracts are with Britvic and Coca-Cola Enterprises (CCE) which between them have almost half the UK market. GSK, which produces Lucozade, is in third place. AG Barr (Irn Bru) and Nestle Waters are also extremely big players in this market.
In terms of alcohol, fewer people in the UK now drink, but an average of £624 per person per year is spent in the supermarket. The key retail contracts are with wine, real ale, ciders, world beers and complex tasting premium brands.
