EARLIER THIS MONTH, West London haulier Saints Transport refreshed its 200-strong fleet with 45 new Euro-5 MAN tractor units in preparation for new London Low Emission Zone legislation that comes into force in 2012.
While the refresh was notable enough to make an appearance on the front page of our sister title Motor Transport, what will really make the MANs stand out is the inclusion of a famous literary quote on the driver side door. It could generate a whole new breed of Saint’s spotters. Our exclusive picture shows the Saint’s Transport flagship truck with vice-chairman Piers Carroll’s favourite quote from Oscar Wilde: “I have the simplest tastes. I am always satisfied with the best.” Might we offer Carroll the following suggestions for quotes from Wilde? CM always pre ferred “It is better to have a permanent income than to be fascinating,” while “Hard work is simply the refuge of people who have nothing whatever to do,” might not quite have the same impact on the side of a truck. Perhaps, tongue-incheek, Saints could say: “My own business always bores me to death. I prefer other people’s.”
