A widow fighting for her husband's killer to be brought to justice has had a boost from the French

government. David Harris reports.

A YORKSHIRE widow has received the backing of the French ambassador in her campaign to make a convicted truck driver pay a fine imposed following her husband's death.

Jean Claude Boulanger is still on the run three yeas after being fined £500 by Pontefract magistrates for careless driving: he caused the accident which resulted in coach driver Allan Harrison's death.

Boulanger's truck was on the wrong side of the A368 near Pontefract when it collided with Harrison's coach. Since it became apparent that Boulanger was dodging the line, Harrison's widow,June, has run a campaign to force him to pay.

Although it is three years since the fine was imposed Harrison says she was pleased that the ambassador had written to her to assure her that the French were trying to help. Jacques Audibert wrote: "I assure you that the French authorities are taking the matter very seriously and are doing their utmost to ensure that the sentence is carried out."

A warrant has been issued for Boulanger's arrest in this country, but it cannot be served in France.

Harrison says the ambassador's letter is welcome, but she remains cautious — she plans to enlist the help of French newspapers
