• Leggett Freightways, the road haulage, forwarding and warehousing group has bought eight storage depots from British Waterways for a reported 28 million.
It will take over the depots with their 109 employees at the end of May. British Waterways is selling much of its road freight business to the private sector to concentrate on leisure, tourism and other waterbased activities.
It previously sub-contracted with road hauliers to make many deliveries from the waterside depots.
