• All right-hand-drive Daf 1900 trucks are to be built at Leyland Daf's assembly plant in Lancashire with production starting in less than twelve months. The switch means that 1,000 of the 1900s will be manufactured each year at the Lancashire plant alongside Roadrunner, Freighter and the Roadtrain models.
The Eindhoven plant will use the extra capacity to build 95 Series trucks, but Leyland Daf says that despite the major increase in production at Lancashire, the plant still has scope for extra production at the British plant. Plans to build right-hand-drive versions of the 95 Series vehicles at Lancashire have not yet borne fruit though Leyland Daf is not niling out this possibility in the future.
Leyland Daf chief executive George Simpson, says: "The increase in utilisation of the Leyland Assembly Plant and the release of capacity in Eindhoven will ensure an increased flow of Daf products to the truck markets of Europe.
"The move demonstrates not only De's ongoing commitment to the UK, but also the very considerable strides in both quality and productivity achieved at the Leyland Assembly Plant."
